Second Call for Papers
*Conference on the *
*Centers and Peripheries in Sport*
Malmö University, Sweden, April 8-12 2010
The Department of Sport Sciences at Malmö University is organizing this
conference, focusing on inequalities in the development of sport. There
are two parts. The first, beginning on the 8th of April, acknowledges
the inconsistencies in association football between centers and
peripheries in the European context. On Saturday the 10th a particular
focus on womens football will mark the end of the first part and the
opening of the second part, which concentrates on the development of
womens sports, with an emphasis on equality and differences.
* Please note new deadline for abstracts: January 15, 2010.

Previous ISEA Conferences
The 6th Conference in July -2006 was held at Munich's Olympic Site of 1972, Germany. Organised by Eckehard Fozzy Moritz and the SportsKreastiveWerkstatt team, the four day Conference was held in the Olympic Hall, where 181 papers were presented to an approximate 370 delegates.
Keynote speeches were presented from
- Wolfgang Maier, German Ski Association, "Demands from Sports for Innovation in Sports Engineering"
- Berthold Krabbe, adidas-Salomon AG, "Product Innovation in the Sporting Goods Industry "
- Dietmar Schmidtbleicher, University of Frankfurt, "Perspectives on Innovation in Sports Engineering - Stochastic Resonance and their Application in Modern Training "
One particular highlight of the conference was the Conference Banquet held at the Botanical Garden where the host Fozzy treated guests to an evening of entertainment. Steve Haake gave a presentation on "The role of a sense of humour in sports engineering" as the forfeit of a bet with Fozzy regarding which nation (England or Germany) got furthest in the World Cup tournament. Also Fozzy performed acrobatics with a friend just to show everyone how multi-talented he is. The ISEA Student Award was presented to Laura Justham of Loughborough University, UK for her paper entitled "Quantification of the Cricket Bowling Delivery; a Study of Elite Players to Gauge Variability and Controllability. The UK Sport Innovation Award was presented to Brett Marmo, of University of Edinburgh, UK for his paper entitled "Optimising Sweeping Techniques for Olympic Curlers".
The 5th Conference in September 2004 was held at Davis, California, USA. Organised by Professor Mont Hubbard, Dr Rabi Mehta and Dr Jani Macari Pallis the Conference was held on campus at Davis , where 173 papers were presented to delegates from more than 15 countries. The conference witnessed a 50% growth in the number of papers and a broadening of participation to include more industrially affiliated engineers and scientists.
Keynote papers were presented from
- Alexander Smits, Professor, Princeton University, USA "Golf Ball Aerodynamics"
- Sam Colbeck, retired research scientist at the US Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory, USA "Review of Snow and Ice Friction"
- Art Chou, VP, Research, Development & Engineering, Rawlings Sporting Goods, "The Business of Golf Technology"
Conference delegates were encouraged to practice their golf swing and hit biodegradable balls into the water whilst sailing the bay area. The conference banquet was also held on board the Galaxy Commodore.
